Equine Construction

Equine construction serves as a basic unit of horse house or horse shelter. By taking a cursory look at it, there is obvious and glaring difference between horse boarding facilities in pleasantly simple-design horse stables and business-purpose equestrian clubs. Both facilities can be able to provide cozy and comfortable conditions for both horses and working staff. In the course of designing horse stable, safety of horses and staff should be taken into consideration. Convenience of routine work is inextricably linked to good care of horse. No matter what managerial style or requirements would be, safely designed equine constructions feature the same and basic elements. There are many options to choose with regard to horse stable and functionality and expenditure varies from different choices.

Size of Equine Construction

Horse height and the time the horse are kept in the horse stable are decisive factors that determine how big the horse stable will be. Bigger horse requires more space for living than that of smaller one. In such environment, bigger horses are free to turn around, lay down and standup. 12 feet (approximately equates to 3.6m) horse stable can accommodate a horse of 1000 pound (453.5 kilogram). In fact, many horse stables are slightly less than such data in terms of size, but it can still be workable, with suggested given length no less than 3 meters. Generally speaking, the size of the equine construction is 1.5 times of that of horse. The more time the horse spend in the stable or stay active all the time, the bigger the stable will be. If the stables specifically designed for mare and foal, block arranged between two stable can be removed for more spaces. Standard height of partition for stable is 8 feet (2.4m) and not less than 7.5 feet (2.2m).  This configuration is designed to ensure that the height, when horse kick backward is not higher than that of wall. Commonly, the size of horse stable, provided by manufacturer, is 7 feet (2.1m), with width ranging between 3.5 feet (1m) and 3.75 feet (1.1m). such size is made by mean of measuring the actual size of a horse ensuring the safety of people and horse.

Height of stable ceiling ranges from 10 feet (3m) to 12 feet (3.6m). Lower height of ceiling not only blocks the air ventilation in the stable, but also potentially increases the risk of horse head accidently hitting the ceiling, causing varying damage to the horse. In effect, many equine constructions come in open truss and rafter construction, without ceiling being formed. Under this circumstances, if the stable designed with minimum height, there is possibility that horse’ head might hit lamp or truss inadvertently.
